A Latina Coming Out Story
Lillian’s guest is Juanita Diaz-Cotto, PH.D., author, Professor of sociology, women’s studies, lecturer, activist, and was born in Puerto Rico and raised between New York and Puerto Rico. Juanita will tell us what it was like coming out of the closet when coming out wasn’t fashionable; especially for Latinas.
Coming out isn’t the same for all LGBT individuals. This is important to understand; because, things like age, culture, race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, social expectations and intolerance all play into what the emotional outcome will be. Let’s listen closely to the journey that Juanita took; her experience coming out as a Latina, her struggles and accomplishments.
